Meet Rocket (ID6016)

Rocket is a sweet senior gentleman, who finds himself looking for someone to spend the rest of his golden years with. Rocket came into rescue, due to the passing of his owner. His owner’s family couldn’t stand the thought of him in a shelter, but also knew they were not the ideal home for him, so they brought him home and contacted rescue. Rocket lived with another dog in his original home, has lived with a young child who he appreciated when they slipped (or dropped) him snacks. Rocket was born with bilateral entropion, a painful congenital condition where the eyelids roll inward scratching the cornea of the eyes, which was corrected early this year. Due to Rocket living with this condition for his entire life he has been diagnosed with Pigmentary Keratitis, which is cause from chronic inflammation or disease of the eyelid. He has also been diagnosed with Progressive Retinal Atrophy (PRA), PRA is a non-painful condition that tends to progress slowly over time, often starting with a decreased ability to see well at night (this is not a known condition in Ridgebacks). Rocket is having difficulty at night, but he is fine as long as a nightlight is on. The ophthalmologist suggested he be on a supplement to potentially help slow the progression, that supplement can be found on Amazon and it’s approximately $90/mo. Rocket is UTD on vaccines, neutered, crate trained and learning to walk well on leash. He does still get overly excited and will jump at/on you when he wants to show his devotion. Like any typical Ridgeback, he is wary of strangers but will relax once his people show him the stranger is trustworthy. When he hears dogs barking he chooses not to engage, but rather turns around to go back in the house. He loves being near his person, sometimes making himself a tripping hazard if you haven’t noticed he plopped himself down at your feet. Rocket is being fostered in the Biloxi, MS area.
